FAQs
Q What type of guitars do you play?
A With all the extremely talented guitar builders here in Australia, I'm very proud to play excellent quality Australian custom built guitars. It's always inspiring to use the best tools in any trade, and so it is with the guitars I choose to play. Garry Albrecht and Jeremy Locke are two excellent guitar builders here in Australia and I love to play their hand crafted masterpieces. I cannot recommend their work highly enough.
Mirrabook Guitars by Garry Albrecht
My steel string Mirrabook acoustic guitar is made of a Spruce top with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides with beautiful Mother of Pearl rosette and fret marker inlay.
My electric Mirrabook has a beautiful quilted maple top with a mahogany body and a birdseye maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Jeremy Locke Classical Guitars
After an extensive quest for the right tones and overall sound quality for a classical guitar, I finally chose a beautiful instrument (spruce top, ebony back and sides) built by talented Gold Coast guitar builder, Jeremy Locke.
Q When did you first start playing and what inspires you?
A I first picked up the guitar as a 10 year old and was mostly self taught, I played in rock bands throughout my teens and enjoyed playing a lot of jazz and blues styles which was a good foundation for my general playing. Following this, at the age of 19, I enjoyed three years of classical guitar tuition which totally changed my approach to music in general and enabled me to develop a much more intricate and expressive style of playing.
As far as inspiration goes, I just really love composing, so I don't need much of a spark to get me going in the studio
Q Who are your favourite musicians?
A I've always been inspired by guitarists who have an effortless, flowing style. Players like Mark Knopfler and Dave Gilmour for example. John Williams for his sheer technical perfection and classical guitar mastery. Some of my favourite artists include John Martin, Roland Orzabel, Michael Franks, Pat Metheny, JJ Cale, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Hans Zimmer, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Cray, to name just a few... How long have you got!
